User privacy and data protection

  • Personal data is defined as any data that can be used to identify a living person, directly or indirectly.
  • It includes things such as a name, photo, email address, personal bank or medical details, or a computer IP address.
  • The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC. It was designed designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe and to protect EU citizens’ data privacy.
  • bpm web design ltd will never sell or distribute or make public your personal information.

The personal information that bpm web design ltd collects

For the day-to-day running of the business it is necessary to collect certain user informatiom. This website uses:

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports on the user’s interactions with the site.
Each time you visit the site, the code tracks information about your visit, for instance how long you are on a certain page.

GA records data such as your geographical location, device, internet browser and operating system, but does not personally identify you. GA also records your computer’s IP address which could be used to personally identify you but Google do not grant us access to this. We consider Google to be a third party data processor.

GA makes use of cookies, details of which can be found on Google’s developer guides.

Disabling cookies on your internet browser will stop GA from tracking any part of your visit to pages within this website.

Contacting bpm web design ltd

This website has a contact form and also email links, e.g. jon@bpm-web-design.co.uk. This information is sent via SMTP and not recorded elsewhere i.e. I get it in my gmail inbox.

Email correspondance is an everyday part of running a business and a necessary communication tool. I use Gmail to log in and read and respond to emails. Your email addresses are stored there but the account is password protected.

Newsletters

Occassionally I will want to contact all of my clients and so every now and then you will receive a newsletter email from me. To do this I use a service called Campaign Monitor. For GDPR purposes this is considered a third party data processor. Your email and name are stored on their systems. Every newsletter I send out via Campaign Monitor has an unsubscribe link on them so you will be able to remove yourself, or you can contact me directly if one is not to hand.

Personal information stored by bpm web design ltd

No personal data is stored on this website. However, I have built many websites using either Joomla or WordPress which use databases to store the site content as well as user information. In the near future we aim to change the storage of this data to a pseudonymous fashion meaning that the data would require additional processing using a separately stored ‘key’ before it could be used to identify an individual.

Pseudonymisation is a recent requirement of the GDPR which many web application developers are currently working to fully implement. We are committed to keeping it as a high priority and will implement it on this website as soon as we are able to.
