Alison Bell is FitBox, an Advanced Boxercise Instructor based in and working around Thame, Oxfordshire.

The project brief was fairly straightforward; produce an attractive and functional website that would allow Ali to promote her business online. We discussed who her target audience was and what the language and tone of the site should be. Research was made into comparable sites, ones Ali liked etc to build up a profile for the overall look and feel.

Work was then started on the pages for the site and wireframes to map out the home page layout. The site functions as a brochure and Ali has three main client areas. A slide of the carousel was dedicated to each of these with the starting one being an overall introduction, making four in total. This information was also reinforced through the use of the cards below. The welcome message was the third block, followed by testimonials (later dropped) and then finally the footer with contact information which would be displayed on every page.

The logo had already been designed so it was obvious to base the colour scheme around this. It presented an issues in that the primary colour was red which traditionally indicates danger. But working on the mock-ups it was preferred to the orange because of it’s boldness.

The concept behind the design would be to use imagery that was predominately female with a style that was more masculine. This resulted in a ‘clipped’ style to single images and the straight angle used to divide the carousel from the cards, which was the next content block. Along with the red this would achieve balance and appeal to both a male and female audience.
